If you’re looking for a fantastic Spanish retreat which will offer you a huge range of attractions, then Gran Canaria is one of the best places to go. This beautiful island has something for everyone whether you want culture or adventure. 1. Las Palmas
Gran Canaria’s capital city, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is a fantastic place to explore. The vibrant city has an old town district to explore, providing a great sense of Spanish traditionalism. Meanwhile, the Santa Anna Cathedral and City Hall offer great architecture. And with many lovely beaches you won’t have to venture far to combine a cultural and beach holiday into one trip.
2. Casa de Colon
Located in the capital city, Casa de Colon houses art and historic pieces from the past five centuries of the Canary Islands, and is a great museum to explore.
3. Aqualand
Whenever in a hot climate one of the best places to visit in addition to enjoying a few beach days is an aquapark. Located in Maspalomas, Aqualand is open every day between 10am and 5pm and offers a day of thrilling rides and splashing around. It is an ideal attraction especially if you’re travelling with children.
4. Holiday World
The largest funfair in the Canary Islands, Holiday World is a great destination to visit as the sun sets. Opening at 6pm, the carnival lights on the Ferris wheel, roller-coasters and merry-go-rounds come alight and it is the perfect stop for an evening of fun.
5. Palmitos Park
Also located in Maspalomas, Palmitos Park is a great way to get back to nature and enjoy a little wildlife. An orchid house, aquarium and botanical garden have both plants and creatures such as butterflies, fish and parrots to discover.
6. Maspalomas Dunes
Outside of Maspalomas you’ll find that there are some absolutely magnificent dunes. Covering a 4.5sqm area, the desert is a must see if you’re in the area. With the sand blown in from the Sahara Desert 250km away, it one of Gran Canaria’s most stunning sights.
7. Sioux City
If you’ve ever wanted to be in a Western, then heading to Sioux City in San Agustin will offer a styled themepark for you to enjoy. A replica of a Wild West Town, the park offers cowboys and Indians as well as visiting places such as a saloon and ranch.
8. Cactus Park
An iconic plant of the desert is the cactus, and in La Aldea you’ll find Cactualdea. With more than a 1,000 species of cacti, it is a great place to explore with the benefit of a restaurant offering traditional Gran Canaria cuisine.
9. Crocodile Park
Located in Aguimes, The Crocodile Park opened in 1988 where you can see a variety of reptilian species. Crocodile feeding time is at 12pm, 2pm and 4pm and should not be missed.
10. Mundo Aborigen
A fantastic reconstruction of an ancient village, Mundo Aborigen is a great attraction if you’re looking to discover the culture and history of the island’s native inhabitants.
